2013 NBA Fantasy Basketball Projections

Updated on September 26, 2012
KD leads the pack once again.
KD leads the pack once again. | Source

In one of my previous hubs, "2012-13 Fantasy Basketball Rankings," I highlighted my top 100 fantasy basketball players. In this hub, I will give you projections for each player with a few added adjustments.

I mentioned how Durant has established himself as the #1 fantasy player. He's versatile, helps in all the percentages and contributes across the board. The one downside is his turnovers, but other than that, he's the best of the best.

Arron Afflalo gets a major upgrade in value. Moving up four rounds than where he would have went had he stayed in Denver. Jrue Holiday also sees a slight uptick.

Thoughts on 1-25

Durant could flirt with 30 a game because he's just that good. The offense will be ran more through him and that should lead to a spike in assists. It's hard to believe that Durant could become an even better fantasy player, but it's entirely possible. This is also assuming that Westbrook plays more like a point guard, and allows Durantula to run the offense more.

You already know about Cousins' upside. It's immense. If he can stay out of foul trouble and get his head straight, the sky is the limit.

I can understand why anybody would be afraid to draft Stephen Curry. But think about this, if you can get 70+ games of Curry, you will probably get elite numbers. With Monta Ellis out of the picture, and less ball handlers around him, he will have many big asts games and he'll help you all across the board as usual. It also doesn't hurt that he will have flame throwers like Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes, and the pick-and-roll with David Lee to pad his assist numbers. The thing is, he has to stay healthy.

George is a great young talent, and could soon become the best fantasy player on the Pacers.

Thoughts on 26-50

Greg Monroe can improve coming off a terrific sophomore season. He plays on a mediocre team, and if his coach gives him 35 mins a game like he should, he can put up 20 and 10 almost every night.

Paul George is someone you should watch closely. He has unlimited upside, and his game is versatile. If he makes a leap forward, he could become a legitimate top 25 player.

Don't sleep on Paul Pierce. Never sleep on him. Every time someone thinks he's done, he has another incredible season. He'll be healthy for training camp, and Paul Pierce will be Paul Pierce.

Arron Afflalo goes into an incredible situation. He's the best player on a very bad team. He'll be asked to carry the load offensively, although Jameer Nelson will try his best to eat into his numbers. Afflalo is a legitimate 20 point scoring threat on a nightly basis on such an atrocious team. He's already coming off a pretty stellar season where he averaged, 15.2 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, 1.4 three pointers made, and 47% shooting on a balanced Denver Nuggets team. Draft him with confidence.

Thoughts on 51-75

Jrue Holiday. Probably should have him higher on this list. I really like him to excel without the threat of Andre Iguodala. There's still Evan Turner to worry about, but I don't think you have to worry too much. Bynum and Jrue are both full of fantasy goodness in Philadelphia this season.

Don't give up on Amar'e. He's a good bounce-back candidate. You could get great value for him in this draft. He's a legitimate 20 point scoring threat. Don't let him slip past you.

Jeremy Lin is intriguing. If he can stay healthy, he can put up some pretty big fantasy numbers in Houston. An All-Star season isn't out of question.

Finals Thoughts on 76-100

Kevin Martin is a player here with top 35 upside. The question is, can he stay healthy, and can he coexist with Kevin McHale. Kevin McHale won't hesitate to bench KMart, so when you take him, realize there's the possibility that he could lose playing time. But if KMart is like the old one, he'll pad your FTs, hit a lot of threes, and score a lot of points.

This could be a big year for Favors. If only we could trust Ty Corbin. Cross your fingers and hope he gets 30 minutes a game.

Luol Deng should have had that wrist surgery. He could be too low on this list, but it's hard to like him for next season even though the Bulls will be without Rose. It is set up perfectly for him to be a great fantasy player without Rose in the picture for the first half of the season, but there's a huge but. Deng is a risky play this season by not opting to have that surgery. He could have many games this year where he sits out because of his wrist flare ups, and if it gets too bad, you could have him sitting on your IR for months if he has to have surgery. Avoid if you can.

Speaking of Rose, if you are in a keeper league, and his owner didn't keep him, don't hesitate to take him 3-5 rounds before he's going in standard leagues this season. He'll probably be out all of the first half, but you are getting an outstanding keeper back, and if you are still in the playoff hunt or have a shot at winning your roto league, that's even better. Even if you are in a standard league, it won't hurt to stash Rose on your IR. He could help you win in the fantasy playoffs(if you make it), or help you make up some ground in roto leagues.

Darren Collison versus George Hill. Go with Collison because he's in an offense that fits him more. Indiana wasn't suited to his talents. He will run more pick and rolls in Dallas, and should see a slight uptick in assists. He should be a better fantasy player than Hill.
